The River Giant

The Waterbuck is one of Africa's largest antelope, recognised by its shaggy grey-brown coat, distinctive white ring around the rump and impressive sweeping horns carried by mature bulls. Closely associated with rivers, lakes and marshlands, it rarely ventures far from reliable water sources.

Waterbuck possess exceptional hearing and eyesight, making them highly alert and difficult to stalk. When threatened, they often retreat into dense riverine cover or take to the water, where they feel secure from predators.

Their impressive body size, heavy horn structure and challenging habitat provide hunters with an exciting pursuit that demands patience, careful planning and accurate shot placement. A mature Waterbuck bull represents one of the most prestigious trophies of the African plains.
