Plains Game
Small, Elusive and Remarkably Resilient
Standing only around 50 cm at the shoulder, the Steenbuck is one of Africa's smallest antelope species, yet it possesses extraordinary adaptability and resilience.
Its sleek reddish-brown coat, large ears and slender build allow it to blend seamlessly into grasslands, bushveld and open savannah. Rather than fleeing long distances, Steenbuck often rely on quick zigzag movements and nearby cover to escape danger.
Usually encountered alone or in breeding pairs, they maintain well-defined territories and feed on grasses, herbs, leaves and succulent plants, often obtaining enough moisture from vegetation to survive without regular access to water.
Although small in stature, the Steenbuck offers a rewarding hunting experience, requiring patience, sharp observation and careful stalking to successfully harvest this elusive little antelope.
